Auditing ISO 13485 Is Not Auditing ISO 9001
Design. Risk. Traceability.
If your organization is certified to ISO 13485, a general auditing course will leave gaps. MSI's 13485 training covers what medical device auditors are actually required to verify — and where registrars concentrate their findings.
Design inputs, outputs, review, verification, validation, and transfer — plus the design history file. ISO 9001 permits design to be excluded from scope; ISO 13485 does not treat it as optional in the same way, and auditors are expected to know the difference.
Complaint intake, investigation, and the decision path into corrective action. Auditing whether a complaint was correctly evaluated — and whether the CAPA that followed was effective — is where medical device audits most often find weakness.
ISO 13485 threads risk through design, purchasing, production, and post-market activity. Auditors need to trace risk decisions to evidence rather than confirm a risk file exists.
ISO 13485:2016 branched from ISO 9001:2008 and kept the quality manual, the management representative, preventive action, and mandatory documented procedures. A company certified to ISO 9001:2015 extending into 13485 must reinstate all four — and auditors must know to look for them.
Device-level traceability, sterile and implantable requirements, and retention periods tied to device lifetime rather than a general records policy.
How ISO 13485 audit evidence relates to FDA and EU MDR expectations, so internal audits support regulatory readiness instead of running as a parallel exercise.

Most ISO auditor training runs on someone else's calendar, in someone else's classroom, against a generic mock quality system. MSI delivers the same 16 hours at your site, built around the documentation your auditors will actually be auditing.
Exercises use your procedures, your forms, and your records instead of a generic sample QMS. Auditors practice on the system they will audit — so the first real audit is not the first time they have seen it.
Qualify three auditors or thirty. MSI does not require a minimum headcount to schedule on-site delivery, which matters when you need two people qualified before a surveillance audit and a public course will not run.
The full 16 hours of required instruction delivered across two days at your facility, including the hands-on sample audit that earns the certificate.
No travel markup. Travel is passed through at actual cost, quoted before you commit, so the number you approve is the number you pay.
MSI travels wherever training is requested. Multi-site organizations can run the same course at each location so auditor qualification is consistent across the business.
ISO 9001, ISO 13485, both or ISO 14001 in a single combined session. Additional standards add roughly two hours each rather than requiring a separate course.
