Background:

Diana’s path into ISO consulting started in uniform. She served as a materials specialist in a U.S. Air Force civil engineering unit stationed in Germany — work that introduced her to the operational systems thinking that would later define MSI.

After her service, she built her professional foundation in procurement and program management at National Steel and Shipbuilding (NASSCO) and, later, San Diego Gas and Electric. As a Procurement Agent at SDG&E for five years, she sole-sourced major contract categories including temporary staffing, street lighting installations, and waste management; drafted and managed the company’s Transfer Agent contract; and ran the procurement bidding for the underground cable infrastructure that powered the Talega/Trabuco Canyon area — a major underground cabling contract awarded to a French firm using novel installation techniques. Her environmental procurement work included the environmental assessment that supported the development of what is now Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres.

In 1998, with a four-year-old daughter at home and the entrepreneurial pull strong, she founded Management Systems International. She holds a Master’s in Global Leadership from the University of San Diego, and is trained in lead auditing both ISO 9001 quality management systems and ISO 14001 environmental management systems.

What Diana found in those early networking conversations at the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce was a gap. Companies needed help with ISO certification, but most consultants handed over templates and walked away. She believed that wasn’t enough. So MSI was built around a different philosophy: write the procedures with the client, not for them. Be present at every certification audit. Stay until they pass — and stay involved as they grow.

That approach has guided over 80 companies through full ISO certification with a 100% first-time success rate. Diana’s work has spanned scales — from long-term multi-year government engagements involving 11 ISO implementations and ISO 14001 oversight of a major chip manufacturing decommissioning effort, to mid-sized medical device firms, aerospace and defense suppliers, manufacturers, engineering consultancies, and now healthcare organizations adopting ISO 7101. Beyond direct certifications, she and the MSI team have trained more than 600 professionals through online courses, internal auditor workshops, and implementation training, and Diana has been physically present at over 200 certification audits.

She also wrote MSI’s complete training curriculum — the Overview courses, Internal Auditor programs, and Implementation training across ISO 9001, 14001, 13485, AS 9100, and integrated standards. In 2015, anticipating the medical device industry’s transition to ISO 13485, she developed MSI’s specialized 13485 protocols, leading to a successful first client certification in 2016. AS 9100 has been a major focus throughout MSI’s history, including extensive integrated 9001/13485 work for medical device clients.

Across her career — and through thousands of management system procedures written from scratch in operations that had never been documented — Diana has held to one belief: good management systems are taken for granted until something goes wrong, like an HVAC system. The real value of an ISO program isn’t the certificate. It’s the structure that prevents problems before management even notices them.

That belief is what shapes how MSI works with every client.
