The Sales Management Maturity Check

Score. Diagnose. Decide.

Most sales and contract review procedures pass their audit. Far fewer control what the organization actually promises. This check scores your process across eight elements — on coverage (do you have it) and maturity (does it work).

There is a genuine Controlled band that tells you to stop. A well-implemented certified system is a legitimate place to rest, and an assessment that fails everyone is not an assessment. Answer for what happens on a busy week, not for what the document says.

The Sales Management Procedure Template & Guide

Every element you were just scored on — already drafted, in editable Word.

ISO 9001, ISO 13485 and integrated sales management procedure templates from MSI

This check was built from a complete procedure, not the other way round. The eight elements you just scored are the eight elements the template implements. Where you scored low, the template shows you what a Level 3 or Level 4 version of that element actually looks like on the page.

    What is in it

    • A channel-enumerated trigger, so the verbal order at a trade show cannot bypass the process
    • Single-owner accountability with named alternates for every gating role
    • Light and full routing paths with stated criteria, both fully compliant
    • The “requirements not stated but necessary” question set, converted into questions a reviewer can answer
    • Resolution-of-differences routes, each with an owner and a record
    • A contingency path — both what the customer requires of you, and what happens when you cannot deliver
    • A records table with no blanks in it, and event-based review triggers
    • Appendix A review record built to work as the release gate, plus a desk-level contract review work instruction with worked examples

    ISO 9001 — Clause 8.2, 22 pages — $149

ISO 13485 — Clause 7.2, 23 pages, including user training, advisory notices, and supply interruption reporting — $149

Integrated ISO 9001 + ISO 13485 — one procedure, 29 pages, with the integration decision record — $249

It saves you the drafting and the judgment calls. It does not save you knowing your own operation — and you do not need it to act on anything above.

    However You Move Forward

We are here to help — whether or not you ever buy anything

This check exists to give you a straight answer about your own process. If the result is useful on its own, take it and act on it. You do not need anything further from us to do that.

    If a hand would help:

    • Call 760-434-9141 and ask for Diana. A conversation about what your score means and what to tackle first costs nothing and carries no obligation. If fifteen minutes saves you three months rebuilding the wrong thing, that is a good outcome for both of us.
    • Watch the ISO Executive Decision Briefs — short leadership-level videos on what a management system is supposed to produce. Free, no form.
    • Read the article behind this check for the seven marks in full, with worked examples.
    • Ask about a planning session if you want structured help mapping your own procedures, or SurePath if you are building a system from the ground up.
    • Take the template if you would rather have the document than write it — details above.

And if you would rather build it yourself from the article, do that. We would rather you end up with a procedure that works than a purchase you did not need.

    Questions

Sales Management Maturity Check — FAQ

    Ask. Answer. Apply.

What does ISO 9001 Clause 8.2 actually require?

ISO 9001 Clause 8.2 has four parts. 8.2.1 covers customer communication, including product information, handling inquiries and orders, customer feedback and complaints, customer property, and contingency actions where relevant. 8.2.2 covers determining the requirements for products and services. 8.2.3 requires review of those requirements before committing to supply, and retention of records of the review. 8.2.4 covers changes to requirements, requiring both that documents are amended and that relevant persons are made aware.

Does ISO 13485 have a contract review requirement?

Yes, but it sits at Clause 7.2, not 8.2. ISO 13485:2016 predates the harmonized ten-clause structure used by ISO 9001, so the numbering does not align. 7.2.1 covers determination of requirements related to product, 7.2.2 covers review prior to commitment, and 7.2.3 covers communication arrangements. ISO 13485 also carries requirements with no ISO 9001 equivalent, including user training determination under 7.2.1(d) and advisory notices under 7.2.3(d).

How do I assess our contract review process?

Score it on two axes rather than one: coverage, meaning whether the requirement is addressed at all, and maturity, meaning whether it works in practice on a busy week. The eight elements worth scoring are inquiry capture, requirements determination, review before commitment, resolution of differences, records, change control, contingency, and competence. This check does exactly that in under five minutes and gives you a band and a priority order.

What is the ISO 9001 contingency requirement, and why is it so often missed?

Clause 8.2.1(e) requires the organization to establish specific requirements for contingency actions, when relevant. It was new in the 2015 revision with no predecessor in the 2008 edition, so during transition there was nothing to map it from and in most organizations it fell through the exercise entirely. The qualifier 'when relevant' finishes the job, because an organization decides it does not apply and never records that determination. If contingency genuinely does not apply to your business, record the decision in one sentence.

How long does the check take, and what do I get?

Seventeen questions on the ISO 9001 path or twenty on the ISO 13485 path, taking under five minutes. You see your score, your band, and a contingency assessment immediately, without entering anything. The element-by-element breakdown and the priority order for fixing things open after you enter your details, and the full report is emailed to you.

    Is this a sales pitch?

No. The bands include a genuine Controlled result that tells you a well-implemented certified system is a legitimate place to rest, and that going further is a business decision rather than a compliance one. An assessment that fails everyone is not an assessment. If the result is useful on its own, take it and act on it. If a conversation would help, call MSI at 760-434-9141 with no obligation attached.

Still deciding where to start? Call MSI at 760-434-9141 and ask for Diana. There is no obligation attached to a conversation, and we are glad to help you move forward whether or not you ever become a client. Or read the article behind this check for the seven marks in full.

What does ISO 9001 Clause 8.2 actually require?"

walks all four sub-clauses. This is a genuinely searched query with mostly thin answers competing.

Does ISO 13485 have a contract review requirement?

answers yes, but at 7.2 not 8.2, and explains why the numbering doesn't align. This is the term neither product slug captures, so the FAQ picks it up.

How do I assess our contract review process?

names the two axes and the eight elements, then points at the check. Question and product are the same thing, which is the ideal case.

What is the ISO 9001 contingency requirement, and why is it so often missed?

the transition-mapping explanation. Almost nothing competes for this, and it's the answer most likely to get pulled into an AI Overview, because it explains a cause rather than restating the clause.

How long does the check take, and what do I get?

states plainly that score and band are free and ungated, breakdown is gated. People abandon assessments when they suspect a bait-and-switch.

    Is this a sales pitch?

answers no, and proves it by describing the Controlled band that tells people to stop. Then the phone number with no obligation attached.
